In a rotary valve having a circular seat 58 and a closure member with a substantially rigid spherical face 65 joined by deformable portions 63 to a hub 61 splined to a rotatable shaft 40, the axis of the shaft 40 is offset with respect to the central axis C of the valve head 64 and the flow axis A of the valve so that when the shaft 40 is rotated to seat the face 65 on the seat 58, the face 65 first contacts the latter at P when further rotation of the shaft 40 causes the valve head 64 to pivot about P until the face 65 is fully seated, the portions 63 deforming. The shaft 40 is rotated by a ram 21 acting through a lever 50 fast on the end of shaft 40 which extends through a tubular portion (35) of the housing to which a bracket 42 supporting the ram is secured. A manual handwheel 53 on a shaft threaded into a bore of the bracket and acting on the end of the lever 50 remote from the ram 21 can be used to actuate the valve or as an adjustable stop. The shaft 40 is mounted in bosses 36, 37 integral with the housing or in a modification in bosses formed in a tubular arm connected in an aperture of the housing and having an L-shaped arm extending internally across the housing and supporting one end of the shaft 40. The seat 58 has an annular shoulder and is retained in the stepped bore by a ring nut 59 and in a modification can project into the valve chamber 32. A pointer on the lever 50 and indicia on the bracket 42 give an indication of the closure member position. A grommet 90 (Fig. 14) which surrounds the piston rod and allows it to move laterally in a slot of the housing of the ram has a square sectioned body 91 with a central bore and two end flanges 92, 93, each with a vent hole 94, 95 therethrough.</p> |
