PURPOSE: A flooded type evaporator of a freezer is provided to improve the efficiency by enhancing utility for unit material cost or reducing the required power for circulation of cold water. CONSTITUTION: A flooded type evaporator of a freezer comprises a shell(42) of a cylinder shape, plural lower heat transfer pipes(70), and upper heat transfer pipes(160b). The lower side of the shell is connected to a condenser through an expansion pipe(44) and the upper side is connected to a compressor(20). The lower heat transfer pipe makes cold water flow in a direction to evaporate a liquid refrigerant in the shell. The lower heat transfer pipes are arranged to the lower part of the inside of the shell. The upper heat transfer pipe makes cold water flow in another direction. The upper heat transfer pipe is arranged to the upper part of the lower heat transfer pipe. The upper heat transfer pipe is an extended heat transfer pipe the diameter of which is larger than the diameter of the lower heat transfer pipe.
