MOSAIC ARRAY OF ULTRASOUND TRANSDUCER ELEMENTS, MICRO-MACHINED ULTRASOUND TRANSDUCER ARRAY, AND ULTRASOUND TRANSDUCER

PURPOSE: A mosaic array of ultrasound transducer elements, a micro-machined ultrasound transducer array, and an ultrasound transducer are provided to reduce the size and the power consumption and form a portable ultrasonic system by dividing an active opening of the ultrasonic transducer into mosaics of sub-elements and connecting the mosaics of sub-elements to an electronic switch. CONSTITUTION: A mosaic array includes a multiplicity of sub-elements. Each of the sub-elements includes a respective multiplicity of micro-machined ultrasound transducer(MUT) cells. Each of the MUT cells includes a top electrode and a bottom electrode. The top electrodes of the MUT cells for forming any particular sub-element are hard-wired together. The bottom electrodes of the same MUT cells are hard-wired together.
