Methods and systems are provided for selecting and producing a customized skin care product, based on genetic analysis of an individual. In addition, genetic markers are provided that can be used as part of a genetic analysis, to select an appropriate skin car formulation for a particular individual. The genetic markers include markers include ones that are indicative of the expression and/or activity of enzymes such as matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that are important in maintaining the structure and/or integrity of skin.
