PURPOSE: A display system having an automatic image sticking prevention function and an image sticking preventing method are provided to automatically prevent image sticking without deteriorating picture quality. CONSTITUTION: A display system having an automatic image sticking prevention function includes a signal receiver(41) for receiving a video signal, a signal processor(42) for processing the output signal of the signal receiver into a format-convertible signal form, and a motion detector(43) for comparing frames of an image received through the signal receiver to detect whether the image is a still image. The display system further includes a microcomputer(44) for controlling the display system and outputting an image sticking prevention command with respect to a still image region in response to the output of the motion detector, a scaler(45) for converting the format of the video signal output from the signal processor and modulating a level of an image of a region corresponding to the output of the microcomputer to prevent image sticking, and a display(46) for displaying the output of the scaler.
