PURPOSE: A recording/reproducing method of an image reproducing system is provided to record a video signal and an audio signal in a data storage unit for a long period of time without using a separate encoder. CONSTITUTION: An image reproducing system includes a demultiplexer for dividing an MPEG broadcasting signal into a video signal and an audio signal, an MPEG decoder for compressing the video signal and the audio signal, and a storage medium for storing the video signal and the audio signal. A predetermined frame is selected from I, P and B frames of each of unit frames constructing the video signal(S100). A video signal corresponding to the selected frame and information about the selected frame are stored in the storage medium(S300). A frame selected from I, P and B frames constructing the video signal stored in the storage medium is repeatedly applied to the MPEG decoder predetermined number of times.
