The invention relates to the production of a towed passive sonar with a multibeam antenna. The passive device is intended, for example, for anti-submarine warfare. The inventive device comprises, in particular, a multibeam antenna, an electrical tow cable and signal-processing means. The multibeam antenna consists of elements in the form of polyurethane plates containing acoustic sensors which are arranged in a network. Each of the aforementioned sensors is connected to the signal-processing means independently of the other sensors. The antenna also comprises a position sensor which can be used to ascertain the attitude and orientation thereof in the environment in which it is being pulled. According to the invention, the signals received by the sensors are routed separately towards the signal-processing means, such that the device can be used for the adaptive formation of listening beams, or channels, which can be oriented in all directions around the antenna. Moreover, the direction of each of the beams can be ascertained regardless of the orientation and attitude of the antenna. The antenna is pulled by the carrier ship by means of an electrical tow cable which provides the electrical and mechanical connection between the antenna and the equipment located on the towing vessel. The inventive device is advantageous in that it performs comparably to linear-antenna-equipped passive sonars, but has a significantly smaller weight and dimensions.
|
