The scales (1), using weight sensors in four feet (4) connected by an electronic circuit to a digital display, have a top plate (10) made from a supporting panel of glass (12) about 8 mm thick, with a covering layer (14) of wood or a transparent or opaque plastic between 0.1 and 5 mm thick and having a low thermal transmission level. The wood or other opaque panel has a window (19) for the read-out display.
