#CMT# #/CMT# Laminate comprises a thermoplastic polymer layer bonded to an upper paper layer through a penetration zone in which part of the polymer layer is fused with the paper fibers. The penetration zone does not extend to the top surface of the paper layer. #CMT# : #/CMT# Independent claims are also included for: (1) print media, packaging materials, covering materials and security papers made from the laminate; (2) production of the laminate by fusing the polymer layer with the paper layer in a laminator at 50-250[deg]C and 10 Pa to 10 MPa. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The laminate is useful for making print media, packaging materials, covering materials, card materials and security papers, especially banknotes, cheques, tickets, certificates, share documents, bonds, deeds, identity documents and entry passes (all claimed). #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The paper layer is strongly bonded to the polymer layer without the use of adhesives. #CMT#POLYMERS : #/CMT# Preferred Component: The polymer is preferably a (partially) amorphous polyamide, polypropylene or polyethylene, especially a polyamide derived from aliphatic and alicyclic monomers, optionally with an aromatic component. #CMT#TEXTILES AND PAPER : #/CMT# Preferred Component: The paper is preferably made in a cylinder machine or fourdrinier from a cellulosic fibrous material, e.g. cotton, flax and/or linen, and has a weight of 20-50 g/m 2>. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Recycled Xerox paper (80 g/m 2>) was cut into 20 x 100 mm strips and a 5 mm hole was punched at the end of each strip. A piece of Grilamid TR 90 LX (RTM) polyamide film (20 x 40 mm) was placed between two paper strips and the assembly was placed between two polyimide release films in the press. The assembly was compressed at 155[deg]C and 0.5 MPa for 2 minutes. |
