A continuity detection section (204) detects a monotonous increase/decrease region containing another monotonous increase/decrease region at an adjacent position on the screen in the monotonous increase/decrease region, as a constant region having data constancy. A data constancy direction detection section (301) detects the direction of continuity of the constant region. According to the constant region and the direction of the continuity of the constant region, the real world estimation section estimates constancy of the optical signal of the real world, thereby estimating the optical signal of the real world. The present invention can be applied to an image processing device for generating an image of high resolution.
