An apparatus and method to anchor a chemical rock bolt uses parts of an existing percussion hammer and drill, but modifies it by attaching a small fluid pump to the front. A hollow tubular rock bolt containing in internal grout cartridge and sliding plunger is fitted to the pump outlet. The percussion hammer and drill operates the pump which pumps fluid (typically water) into the rock bolt, causing the plunger to move forward and push the grout cartridge to the end of the rock bolt where the grout sets to cement the bolt in place.
