A light column (10) has a long-length housing, of round, oval or prismatic, cross-section sealed at one end by a base plate (16) and provided with a light source (18) within the housing. The housing (12) is closed at its other end by a head-plate (22) from which extends a conical or pyramidal reflector (24) which extends coaxially with the housing almost up to the base-plate (16).
