PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spindle motor for a hard disc drive. SOLUTION: This spindle motor for a hard disc drive is provided with a base, a sleeve in which a hollow portion is formed, a shaft provided rotatably in the hollow portion of the sleeve, and a hub that is fixed to the upper portion of the shaft. Many grooves for generating fluid dynamic pressure in the radial direction are formed on the outside circumferential surface of the shaft in the herringbone shape.
