PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive image processing apparatus which flexibly performs processing suitable for moving picture quality according to differences in format among input signals from respective input systems, features of display contents, and characteristics of an image display part as an image processing apparatus for multi-screen display which displays input images from a plurality of input signal sources on one and the same picture. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus has an image processing means having at least one signal input part to which video signals of a plurality of systems are inputted, a memory part which has a storage area for storing images of at lest one picture, and at least one signal output part for image display, and puts together the video signals of the plurality of systems on the memory part and outputs the resulting signal to the signal output part, and a control means of controlling the image processing means; and the control means selects a preferential video signal according to at least one of image characteristic information of the video signals of the plurality of systems and conditions of arrangement of an image on the picture of the image display part, based upon the video signals of the plurality of systems, and changes the operation of the image processing means into operation matching the video signal of a preferential system.
