<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine capable of suppressing excessive rise of temperature of an upstream side catalyst device when it is in a hot and rich air-fuel ratio condition, and reducing HC. <P>SOLUTION: Two catalyst devices 5, 6 are provided in an exhaust passage 4. A secondary air supply device 12 is controlled by an ECU 18 to supply secondary air into the exhaust passage 4. When adjusted to the hot and rich air-fuel ratio condition, the ECU 18 operates the secondary air supply device 12 to supply secondary air into a first air supply section 10 in the exhaust passage 4 positioned on the downstream side of the upstream side catalyst device 5 and on the upstream side of the downstream side catalyst device 6 for control. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
