PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a select control device for a vehicle transmission, suppressing the malfunction such as overshoot of a gate while skipping the gate by one stage or more during shift. SOLUTION: The select control device comprises a gate mechanism having the plurality of gates having shift positions for specifying speed stages and a select positioning mechanism for relatively displacing the actual gate to the desired gate of the gate mechanism in the direction of select during shift. A select control element is provided for controlling the select positioning mechanism. The select control element sets the gate which exists on the side of a target gate position but at a position different from the target gate position, at a temporary target gate position when skipping the gate by one stage or more during shift, and executes temporary target convergence moving process to temporarily relatively displace the actual gate to the temporary target gate position and converge it to some extent and then to relatively displace the actual gate from the temporary target gate position to the target gate position.
