PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To print image data on a print sheet while positioning accurately. SOLUTION: The print sheet P is guided by means of guides 29a and 29b and fed in the subscanning direction such that the opposite side ends are located above the left groove part 26a and the right groove part 26b of a platen 26. A carriage 31 equipped with a photoreflector 33 is arranged at a position shown by a dashed line. The photoreflector 33 detects the print sheet P existing at the joint 26d of the left groove part 26a and a downstream side groove part 26r. When the forward end of the print sheet P is detected by the photoreflector 33, feeding in the subscanning direction is stopped and printing on the upper end part Pf (lower end on Fig. 1) of the print sheet P is started by means of a part of nozzles above the downstream side groove part 26r.
