PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-mounted piezoelectric device which can be made thinner and lower, the inside of the package of which can be reliably and excellently sealed hermetically under a desired atmosphere and which improves its own work efficiency. SOLUTION: A package 13 for a crystal oscillator that has a crystal vibrating reed 14 mounted in its inside is composed of: a box-like base 11 in a double-layer structure formed by integrally bonding a frame 16 composed of a ceramic thin plate on a bottom plate 15 composed of a ceramic thin plate; and a cap 12 of a metal thin plate joined thereon. The package 13 has a sealing hole 21 that is opened on the upper surface of the frame 16 and penetrating to the rear side of the base. The sealing hole is composed of a larger diameter portion 21a provided on the base and a smaller diameter portion 21b provided on the frame continuously to the larger diameter portion, and is sealed by depositing a molten sealing 22 near a step between the larger diameter portion and the smaller diameter portion by utilizing a metallized section 24, and the inside of the package is air-tightly sealed under the desired vacuum or gaseous atmosphere.
