<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water source preservation system which establishes techniques for environmental supervision based on a source environment and a power-supply environment and to provide a method for supervising illegal dumping. <P>SOLUTION: The water source preservation system comprises a generating unit 24 which converts the force of water streams in a source environment 1 into electric power, and a supervisory unit 12 which operates on the electric power output by the generating unit 24 to supervise how the source environment 1 is preserved. The generating unit 24 and the supervisory unit 12 are positioned within the source environment 1. Preserving water quality at water sources is of vital importance to improve the medical-physiological environment for humans and sound cycles within ecosystems. The source environment, which is the source of such a cyclic environment, is remote and lacks power facilities, while forming an adverse environment for the preservation of water quality.
