PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly efficient upconvesion fiber having a large core diameter added by trivalent praseodymium ion (Pr<SP>3+</SP>) and trivalent ytterbium ion (Yb<SP>3+</SP>). SOLUTION: An optical fiber 105 with Pr<SP>3+</SP>and Yb3+ codoped to a core 201 has a double clad structure of a first clad 202 and a second clad 203, an excitation light in the vicinity of 850 nm is propagated through the core 201, and an excitation light in the vicinity of 980 nm is propagated through the clad 202, respectively.
