PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the local temperature rising of an end of a heat-resistant insulating substrate supporting member on the downstream side in the direction of passage of a material to be heated, in an image forming apparatus with a heat fixing device which comprises a heating means with a pattern-formed heating element on a heat-resistant insulating substrate in a direction perpendicular to the direction of passage of the material to be heated, a thermally conductive member disposed in contact with a lateral face of the supporting member on the downstream side of the substrate in a paper transport direction along the lengthwise direction of the substrate, wherein the other end comes in contact with part of the supporting member and the remaining part confronts a gap, and a heat-resistant film capable of sliding while in contact with the heating means, and in which the material to be heated and the heat-resistant film are passed through a heating region while keeping the material appressed to a side of the film reverse to the heating means contact side to permanently fix an unfixed image on the material. SOLUTION: The thermally conductive member 9 is fixed on a surface of a heater 5 reverse to a film contact surface at an end of the heater 5 on the downstream side in a paper transport direction along the lengthwise direction of the heater 5 and roughness of a surface of the member 9 brought into contact with a heater substrate 6 is arbitrarity regulated according to the stiffness of the member 9.
