<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and a cartridge unit attaching device which can distinguish detection of the failure of a sensor from detection of the attachment/detachment of a cartridge unit without arranging a circuit exclusively for the detection of the attachment/detachment of the cartridge unit. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is characterised by being provided with: the cartridge unit Up having a plurality of sensors SN1 and SN2 and attachably/detachably supported by an image forming apparatus main body U1; a sensor failure state discriminating means to discriminate the failure state of the plurality of sensors SN1 and SN2 for each sensor SN1 or SN2; and a unit unattached state discriminating means to discriminate that the cartridge unit Up is not attached to the image forming apparatus main body U1 when discriminating that the plurality of sensors SN1 and SN2 are all in a failure state by the sensor failure state discriminating means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
