PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus which can project and display an image safely on a screen, by suppressing stimulus to globes, retinas, and optic nerves generated by a direct entry of projected light into the eyes to the minimum. SOLUTION: A displayed image fetched in by a camera and an input image signal are compared, and a region where they differ is detected as a difference region, and a projection image signal is generated in which an image signal in the video image region of the input image signal which corresponds to this difference signal is masked with a black signal.
