PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thiol-group-containing organically modified layered clay mineral and to provide a rubber composition formed from a well-microdispersed rubber/clay nanocomposite material containing the same. SOLUTION: The organically modified layered clay mineral is obtained by ionically bonding an organic compound having an ammonium group and a thiol group in the molecule.
