PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a meal carrier manufacturing method in which winding is made possible without being affected by flashes at the time of piercing. SOLUTION: A thin strip with large corrugation in which slits A21 are formed by a piercing section 3a is passed through between a roll 72 and a gear 71 of a winding tension section 6a, with the large corrugation engaged with the gear 71 to generate tension. The strip with large corrugation and a thin strip with small corrugation are alternately superposed and wound in multiple wise while tension is also applied to the thin strip with small corrugation. A cell passage for an exhaust gas to pass through is formed between the strip with large corrugation and that with small corrugation. In such a metal carrier manufacturing method, the flashes generated by the piercing section 3a are made to face the roll 72 when the strip passes through between the roll 72 and the gear 71.
