Printed sheets are fed by a feed roll(14) to a cleaning unit for removal of a powder applied to newly printed sheets to prevent adhesion. The cleaning unit has one or more upper rolls(17) which act on a carpet or band-like conveyer(21), in particular a suction conveyer(23) as the sheets pass through. Pressure application equipment(18,20) maintains stability of each sheet on the conveyer. One or more rotating brushes are positioned on the upper side of the conveyer(21) prior to the upper roll(17). The conveyer surface is perforated and a suction table or chamber(23) is located below the conveyer. Both ends of the upper roll are carried on a control member(20), e.g. a piston and cylinder unit, which ensure good contact between roll and carrier sheets(13). The upper roll can be freely rotating and a powered counter roll(18) is located below the upper roll on the underside of the conveyer. The conveyer may comprise several adjacent bands.
