<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of keeping a high-quality image without causing fogging due to inversion toner regardless of the kind of a recording material and regardless of the use of an apparatus over a long term in the image forming apparatus adopting a cleanerless process. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has: an image carrier 1, an electrifying means 2 to electrify the image carrier 1 by an electrifying member 2A to which bias is applied; a developing means 4 to form a developer image on the image carrier 1 by supplying the image carrier 1 with developer; and a transfer means 5 to transfer the developer on the image carrier 1 to a body to be transferred by applying the bias. In the image forming apparatus, the developing means 4 is also used as a cleaning means to recover the developer remaining on the image carrier 1 after transferring the developer image from the image carrier 1 to the body to be transferred, and bias having a polarity reverse to normal polarity at an image formation time is applied to the transfer means during a specified period. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
