<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator which is rigid and heat resistant and has a function for preventing over charging, and a lithium ion secondary battery comprising the same. <P>SOLUTION: The separator for the lithium ion secondary battery has a glass cloth whose membrane thickness is 10-30μm as a base material 1. A layer 2 comprising organic polymers that swells and holds an electrolyte is integrated with the front and rear sides of the base material while carrying the electrolyte or not carrying it, with its membrane thickness being 15-35μm.
