PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To in expensively provide an image reader capable of stably and precisely maintaining the distance between a document to be read and a read unit even during the movement of the read unit without causing abnormal noise. SOLUTION: In the image reader which reads the document 3 placed on the top surface of a transparent glass 1 through a scan by the read unit 4, a slid member 2 is fixed to the reverse surface of the transparent glass 1 and a slide part 5 of the read unit 4 moves in contact with the slid member 2.
