PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a styrene-(meth)acrylic acid copolymer resin having a good external appearance, especially a good hue in low-temperature molding, and excellent in transparency and to provide a preparation method therefor. SOLUTION: The copolymer resin is prepared by copolymerizing a styrenic monomer containing 1-20 ppm phenolic compound having at least two hydroxy groups on its benzene ring, at least one (meth)acrylic ester monomer, and other monomers copolymerizable therewith in the presence of 1-3,000 ppm proton donor and 0-5,000 ppm antioxidant based on 100 pts. mass the sum of the above monomers, provided the content of all the remaining monomers in the resin is lower than 2,000 ppm.
