<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oily pigment ink composition which has excellent fixability, water resistance, printability and storability, can be printed on plain paper without causing a cockling phenomenon, and has high safety, especially a pigment ink composition for ink jet recording. <P>SOLUTION: This ink composition comprising at least a pigment, a cationic or anionic group-having pigment dispersant, an anionic resin, and a solvent is characterized in that a (poly)alkylene glycol monoalkyl ether monoalkyl ester or dialkyl ester compound is contained as a main solvent in an amount of 50 to 100 wt. % based on the total solvent, and has a flash point of ≥70°C.
