PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To connect waveguides with each other easily, quickly, and very tightly without using bolts, screws or the like. SOLUTION: The waveguides are equipped with two metallic covers 1a and 1b mounted in such a way as covering half of connection parts of both flanges 31a and 31b respectively and six metallic pieces 2a and 2b shaped like strips of paper constituted by shape-memory alloys attached on the surface of inner walls of the respective metallic covers 1a and 1b. The metal pieces 2a and 2b are curved at a normal temperature and pressurize the flanges 31a and 3b, which connects the waveguides 3a and 3b. A pair of metallic pieces 2b are fixed by pinned on the surface of inner wall of the metal cover 1b respectively. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
