PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp lighting control circuit capable of normally performing rotation of a fan and lighting of a lamp and a projection type display device. SOLUTION: Equipment having the lamp for a light source and the fan is provided with a control circuit for controlling the rotation of the fan and the lighting of a lamp and a rotation detector for detecting the rotating state of the fan. The control circuit holds the equipment in a standby state when an AC power source is turned on. Upon receipt of an instruction to power source on by a user operation, the control circuit performs the rotation of the fan and the lighting of the lamp. When the AC power source is shut off during lighting of the lamp and is thereafter turned on again and while the fan keeps rotating by inertia, the control circuit drives the fan to control the lighting of the lamp. When the fan is held stopped, the control circuit controls the equipment to the standby state. As a result, the problem that ignition noise is big and a malfunction is heretofore liable to occur in the equipment in the period after turning on of the power source before normal lighting operation is solved.
