PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tone wheel inspection apparatus and an inspection method, which perform the magnetic measurement in a proper state in which the manufactured tone wheel has neither undulations nor strain with respect to the circumferential direction and in which a proper gap between any part in the circumferential direction and the sensor is maintained. SOLUTION: The tone wheel inspection apparatus A includes: a surface reformation means m for forcibly making the tone wheel 21 follow the reference surface 40a of a level board 40, by pressing and nipping a seal ring 19 having the tone wheel 21 consisting of a ring magnetic rubber having alternately arranged S poles and N poles with a positioning ring 37 and the level board 40, with respect to the rotational direction of the seal ring 19; a rotatable chuck 36 for fixedly gripping the seal ring 19, an inspection magnetic sensor 28 disposed opposite the tone wheel 21 in the vicinity thereof; and a reference encoder 12 and a controller 11.
