PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool for attaching and detaching a swing arm of a valve gear system of an engine to attach and detach the swing arm easily without causing damage to the swing arm of the valve gear system of the engine and related parts. SOLUTION: This tool has a pressing bar 2 insertable into a space 9 in the vicinity of suction and exhaust valves 6, 7 in a cylinder head 5 and suction and exhaust cams 11, 12 driving the valves by the swing arm 8, a forked part 3 which extends in the direction Y crossing an axial direction X orthogonally from its one end and nips the top of a valve stem 15 and in which a pressing face F abutting on a spring retainer 14 is formed, and a grip part 4 fixed to the other end of the pressing bar 2 and transmitting a pressing force P to the pressing bar 2. The pressing force P is applied to the spring retainer 14 from the pressing face F to press the suction and exhaust valves 6, 7 down in order to form a clearance t for attaching and detaching the swing arm 8 among the valves and the suction and exhaust cams 11, 12.
