PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process monitoring system and a process monitoring method for establishing a technology that monitors an abnormal state of the monitoring system under the environment in which packet communication can not be performed and performs countermeasures to the abnormal state. SOLUTION: A monitoring device 4 connected through a LAN 3 to a mail server 13 which is connected to a manager terminal 8 and can communicate with the manager terminal by a particular packet described in a specially defined protocol is arranged. The monitoring device 4 is connected to a plurality of monitoring object servers 1 through the LAN 3. The results 15 monitored by the monitoring object servers 1 with self-monitoring according to an instruction of the monitoring device 4 are notified to the monitoring device 4, and transmitted to the manager terminal 8 by the particular packet through the mail server 13. The monitoring object servers which are placed under the control of the monitoring device 4 and monitor themselves in a unified manner can transmit the results obtained by monitoring themselves to the manager terminal 8 by mail transmission. The manager can grasp the situation of an optional monitoring object server in the LAN with no dedicated management tool.
