PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method in which any special changing device or manual operation of a piston is not required when a friction pad is changed, an electric motor is operated in a reverse direction by a preset simple operation, the piston is easily returned to a position at which the friction pad can be changed, and the friction pad is easily changed. SOLUTION: A method for changing a plurality of friction pads 3 and 4 of an electric disk brake 71 in which an electric motor 15 is operated by controlling a control device 72, a piston 38 is moved, and the friction pads 3 and 4 are slidably pressed against a disk rotor 1 to perform braking comprises a step in which vehicle stop is detected by a vehicle stop detection means 75, signal lines for maintenance are short-circuited, a piston retraction requiring operation is performed by a brake pedal 74 while the control device 72 recognizes the maintenance, the electric motor 15 is operated in a reverse direction by the control of the control device 72 according to the operation, and the piston 38 is returned to a position at which the friction pads 3 and 4 can be changed.
