摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor light amplifier having a stabilized gain adjustable according to an external signal so as to be used in a light system with a high saturated light output and a method for manufacturing the same, and to provide an entire light wavelength converter having a simple apparatus constitution, a small size, and high efficiency. SOLUTION: In the semiconductor light amplifier including a laser resonator structure, a lasing light and a light amplification signal light are separated positionally by using an optical waveguide included jointly in a laser resonator structure and a semiconductor light amplification structure as a multi-mode interference optical waveguide having a plurality of output ports. Further, the portion for controlling an optical gain or an optical loss according to the external signal is provided on the region of the laser resonation waveguide through which the light signal of the semiconductor light amplifier does not pass, and a light amplification factor can be controlled completely independently of the lasing light by changing a laser threshold gain.
