<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology more suitably preventing the overheat of a filter by controlling an oxygen concentration in exhaust gas equally in an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine provided with a particulate filter collecting particles in exhaust gas. <P>SOLUTION: In this invented exhaust emission control device and exhaust emission control method for an internal combustion engine, the quantity of exhaust gas supplied to a combustion chamber (EGR gas) is kept at a predetermined quantity or less and the quantity of intake air supplied to the combustion chamber is reduced if there is possibility that the temperature of the particulate filter collecting particles in exhaust gas rises to a degrading temperature or higher. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
