PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording apparatus of high reliability capable of surely guaranteeing the continuity of data at the time of data reproduction and an information recording method, and a region management method for a recording medium. SOLUTION: The information recording apparatus records the inputted data to the recording medium by each prescribed amount of the data, reads the data out of the region of the recording medium subjected to data recording immediately before at every end of the data recording of the prescribed amount of the data and measures the time required for the reading out (S15). The measured value of the read time is compared with the prescribed threshold (S16). When the measured value exceeds the threshold, the region on the recording medium subjected to the reading is judged to be a defective region (S17) and thereafter, the region judged to be the defective region is alternated with another normal region on the recording medium. The region long in the read time is alternated with another normally readable region in the manner described above and therefore the real time in the reproduction operation can be guaranteed.
