Following a tracheostomy the patient's incoming respiratory air is moistened and filtered by an air-permeable woven fabric panel with an air-permeable 3-4 mm thick foam rubber pad. The fabric and pad are joined ether by a hook and loop fastener or an adhesive. The combined fabric and foam pad is applied to the patient's trachostoma by skin-friendly adhesive tape.
