Sorbent composition, process for producing same and use in desulfurization

Process for preparing a sorbent composition comprising the following two processing steps: (a) Bringing a zinc component into contact with a colloidal oxide component containing water as a liquid medium and with a metal-based component. Subsequently the obtained mixture is dried at a temperature ranging from 50 °C to 300 °C to thereby substantially remove all the colloidal oxide component liquid medium. (b) Composition obtained in the step (a) is then subjected to steam treatment, whereby such treatment is carried out at a temperature ranging from 200 °C to 900 °C for a period of 1 to 24 hours. Described is also a composition producable by this method and use such of composition for desulfurization of a liquid flow.
