Process for solidifying liquid metallurgical slag comprises guiding the slag through a narrow groove profile of a conveyor in a controlled manner which runs across the conveying direction. The melt solidifies in a thin layer when it reaches the end of the profile. An independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the process comprising a conveyor consisting of a cooling drum in the form of a truncated cone with a casing formed by groove profiles.
