The tamping spike, to tamp ballast under a railway line, has a spike shaft (8) and a spike plate (6). The plate has an opening (11) in a shell (9) of a wear-resistant material. The opening is filled with a core mass (10) with a contact surface (15) for welding with the spike shaft, bonded by a welded seam. The opening has a recess (14) leading to the lower edge (13) of the spike, at the rear side of the spike shaft. |
