A drive shaft assembly 8 for transmitting rotary drive e.g. in automotive motorised seat adjustment. The assembly comprises a central flexible rotatable core shaft 14, an outer sleeve 12 surrounding the core shaft and spaced therefrom and at least one elastomeric damper 20 positioned at a location 42 along the length 11 of the assembly. The damper extends from the sleeve and lightly abuts against an outer cylindrical surface of the core shaft. The location of the damper corresponds to the location 12 of maximum amplitude resonant displacement in the freely rotating flexible shaft within its operating speed range and the damper thus forms a fixed nodal point which adjusts the resonant frequency out of the speed range. The damper is of rubber or urethane and of radially inwardly tapering section. The sleeve may be rigid or flexible and may fully or partially surround the core. |
