A load (L) moves in a downwards direction due to gravity and is then forced upwards again by accumulated compressed air and this up and down movement is repeated and used to drive a compressor (C) via a transmission (B). A heavy wheel (H) mounted on the compressor drive shaft rotates under its own weight and remains stationary when the load is lifted upwards. Compressed air from the compressor is made to flow along a line (E) through a water tank (D) in order to recover heat.
