The head cushion comprises an elastically compressible body (1,2) with an upper and a lower side, a first edge zone (3), a middle zone (4) and a second edge zone (5). At least the first edge zone forms the neck zone for support purposes, whilst the middle zone forms a head zone. In order to create an equal distribution of pressure on differing heads of pressure to the neck and head so that they are located in the most comfortable position, the elastically compressible body in the head zone is provided with a casing (6), which preferably in plan view is equal in size to the head of the person using it. The casing has a height (h) which is such that the head of the person is rested as if it were on a hammock.
