PURPOSE: A device for automatically controlling an envelope in a VCR fabrication process is provided to calculate sizes and outline lengths of entrance side, center side, and exit side waveforms by converting a detected envelope waveform, respectively, and to control an S(Supply) guide and a T(Take up) guide to accord values of each calculated point, thereby automating a fabrication process and measuring an exact envelope. CONSTITUTION: A motor driver(112) drives a DC motor for rotating an S guide and a T guide, respectively. A preamplifier(102) modulates an envelope value outputted from a video head(100). An A/D converter(106) digitally converts the modulated envelope value. A microcomputer(108) calculates sizes and outline lengths of entrance side, center side, and exit side waveforms of the digitally converted envelope value, respectively, and controls the motor driver(112) such that the calculated sizes and the outline lengths can be identical together.
