PURPOSE: A security recording system and a method for controlling the system are provided to divide images captured by multiple security cameras to construct a single multi-picture, record and reproduce the multi-picture. CONSTITUTION: A security recording system includes an operating unit(102) for generating a selective recording operating signal, a motion detecting unit(106) for detecting a motion to generate a motion detection signal, and a picture splitting unit(108) for inserting alarming color index information into a corresponding split picture and inserting general color index information into other split pictures at a vertical blanking interval in response to the selective recording operating signal and the motion detection signal such that images captured by multiple cameras are split and reconstructed into a multi-picture. The recording system further includes a recording/reproducing unit(110) for recording the reconstructed multi-picture in a storage medium and reproducing the stored multi-picture, and a display(112) for displaying split pictures in the multi-picture in a manner that the split pictures include the alarming color index information and the general color index information.
