PURPOSE: A camera device having a collapsible optical system, a method for starting a camera device, and a program therefor are provided to reduce starting time by executing management starting preparation of a management area in parallel with initializing an optical system. CONSTITUTION: An electronic still camera has a lens block(1) including a collapsible lens group(11) formed of a zoom lens and a focus lens arranged movable in direction of an optical axis. The lens group is driven to a predetermined position, being accompanied with initialization in case of starting a camera device in a state that an operation mode for photographing is set up. A memory(41) has an area storing peculiar lens information, and an area for storing a program for managing files. A control unit(5) controls the initialization of the lens group based on the lens information stored on the memory.
